This exciting new Catholic University production of Sophocles' Greek tragedy comes from a rarely produced adaptation from the late 1920s by Nobel Prize-winning Irish poet William Butler Yeats. King Oedipus tells the truly timeless story of the newly crowned leader of Thebes, who comes to power as its citizens are suffering from famine and plague. But as Oedipus investigates the reasons behind the gods' harsh punishment, he discovers dark secrets and learns that no man can escape his fate -- which happens to involve marrying his mother and murdering his father. Yeats' version also delves into issues of faith vs. reason and Christianity's roots in Greek polytheism, which explains the show's subtitle, Zeus to Deus. Learn More
