Watch The Washington Ballet's ingenious take on The Nutcracker from the comfort of Warner Theatre's premium suites, including waiter service and access to a VIP lounge. Septime Webre's version of the timeless ballet is set in the wintry, historic D.C. of old, where George Washington becomes the heroic nutcracker -- which makes perfect sense considering his legendary set of wooden choppers. Set to Tchaikovsky's enchanting score and staged with magnificent sets and costumes, there are waltzing cherry blossoms, dancing sugar plums and other clever adaptations to enchant young and old, making this particular The Nutcracker a beloved family tradition. Trigger is a cross-disciplinary work that unfolds as a choreographed play where ordinary people have extraordinary lives. Human stories of strength, honor, family and triumph are revealed against a backdrop of some of the nation’s darkest moments. Trigger provides a look into the history of black gangsters: how they were unschooled yet successful; governed by principle rather than established rule; and how their actions mirror some of the very activity that America and our society were built upon. This project addresses issues of class and economic conditions, exposing the double standards of the differential treatment received by minorities.
Snapshots grew out of the initial research process for Trigger and showcases the extreme physicality and athleticism of EDT dancers.
