American Ballet Theatre, regarded as one of the world's finest dance companies, brings an evening of mixed repertory to the Kennedy Center. Michel Fokine's Les Sylphides is a romantic reverie with music by Chopin orchestrated by Britten. Tchaikovsky powers the D.C. premiere of ABT principal dancer Marcelo Gomes' Aftereffect. Based on A Midsummer Night's Dream, Sir Frederick Ashton's The Dream marks 450 years since Shakespeare's birth. For over 70 years, American Ballet Theatre has wowed audiences everywhere with their passion, innovation and athleticism. The New York Times called them "American ballet at its peak," and it's easy to see why. Learn More
Trigger is a cross-disciplinary work that unfolds as a choreographed play where ordinary people have extraordinary lives. Human stories of strength, honor, family and triumph are revealed against a backdrop of some of the nation's darkest moments. Trigger provides a look into the history of black gangsters: how they were unschooled yet successful; governed by principle rather than established rule; and how their actions mirror some of the very activity that America and our society were built upon. This project addresses issues of class and economic conditions, exposing the double standards of the differential treatment received by minorities.
Snapshots grew out of the initial research process for Trigger and showcases the extreme physicality and athleticism of EDT dancers.
