In this moving tale of how tales are born, you'll follow a writer as he tries to piece together the grand, lost romance of a spinster aunt. Belisario becomes entangled in a world where memories and the present are interwoven in this humorous story about family secrets. La Señorita de Tacna (The Young Lady From Tacna) is told from the writer's perspective, mixing false recollections with actual family history. As Belisario tries to connect the loose ends of his Aunt Mamae's life, you'll witness the birth of a new story. Written by Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa of Peru, the play is in Spanish with English surtitles. Learn More

The setup - "girl vows never to fall in love then falls in love" presents the problem of making us believe. For instance Benedick's switch in Much Ado risks our perceiving him as a man of trivial conviction. What I loved about the production was the way Natalia Miranda-Guzman acts the transition of a woman determined to eschew love, but who then tumbles headlong into it. Of course Moreto's classic script provides the means, but Miranda-Guzman is wonderful, and the entire cast is outstanding. Well acted, well sung, well played. The only obstacle for me, with my minimal Spanish, was the problem they were having with the surtitles - sometimes out of sync and twice the operator had to go back and forth to get back on track. But the production is very good, especially for those with good Spanish.
