Flying saucers, backstabbing bitches, muscle hunks and men in pumps populate this insane comedy send-off. It's a scorching summer in 1957 and something strange is happening in the swamps of Lizard Lick, Florida. With rumors of missing people and giant spaceships running rampant, star reporter Mattie Van Buren races down in search of her next Pulitzer with her boozehound ex-husband in tow and her arch-enemy hot on her heels to scoop her story. An off-Broadway favorite, Devil Boys From Beyond by Buddy was written by Buddy Thomas and Kenneth Elliott and won 2008 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Play. Learn More

I am a big fan of the theater, and I see a lot of local productions. Usually, when I find a production through a site like this one, I write an in depth review with lots of specifics about what stood out and what I didn't like as much, in hopes that it can help other people to decide whether or not to go. Unfortunately, I can't do that here.Written on Oct 09 2009
This was the funniest f***ing thing I've ever seen. I have never laughed so hard at a show in my life. I took my girlfriend as a surprise, and she kept laughing so hard she couldn't talk until about 20 minutes after we'd left. Superbly acted, very well sung, and the whole troupe plays the camp factor perfectly. Special effects were hilarious, and the writing is comedic genius. Stop reading and buy the tickets.
Quick tip: Spend the extra dollar on the poncho or dress to get very messy.

Evil Dead was the ultimate musical experience of the year, and boy am I lucky it was staged right in the heart of D.C.! I invited 3 friends and we all could not stop laughing in our seats. Be ready with your ponchos - it gets messy! My friends and I were talking about this show and humming the dirty ditties for days afterwards.Written on Oct 12 2009

This was a really great play if you are a fan of the movie Evil Dead. The actor playing Ash captured the spirit of Bruce Campbell and the actress playing his sister was a riot! I definitely recommend checking it out - just be sure to bring a poncho because the audience gets sprayed with blood (a lot). Once you get past the group number in the beginning, most songs are very catchy and funny, and most of the actors are great.Written on Oct 16 2009

More Information About Evil Dead: The Musical
Description
Book & Lyrics By George Reinblatt
Music By Frank Cippola, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt
The Landless Theatre Company presents the DC Premiere of Evil Dead The Musical at District of Columbia Arts Center. The Off-Broadway camp-horror phenomenon was written by a team headed by George Reinblatt. The production is directed by Melissa Baughman (Diamond Dead, President Harding Is A Rock Star), features Zehra Fazal (Headscarf and The Angry Bitch, Capital Fringe Festival 2009), and stars newcomer Clay Comer as “Ash.”
Based on Sam Raimi’s 80s cult classic films, Evil Dead The Musical tells the tale of five college kids who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. It’s a classic story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive.
“The production will feature our first ever ‘Splash Zone’,” said director Melissa Baughman. “Audience members should dress accordingly because at the intimate DC Arts Center, I don’t think there will be a ‘blood free’ seat in the house!”
Baughman is no stranger to the zombie-horror genre, having last directed the original zombie rock musical Diamond Dead (Winner of the 2008 Best Musical Pick of the Capital Fringe and 2009 DCTheatreScene.com Audience Favorite Fringe Musical) which toured this summer at the New York International Fringe Festival and The Capital Fringe Festival. She also directed the 2006 Landless production of Night of the Living Dead.
