Direct from Spain, the 2012 Flamenco Festival comes to Washington, D.C.'s GW Lisner Auditorium for a week of energetic dance performances. Kicking things off is a performance by three of flamenco's leading female dancers: Carmen Cortés, Rafaela Carrasco and Olga Pericet. The women share the stage in a virtuosic dance display ranging from the Gypsy roots of flamenco to contemporary innovations. Cortés, one of the great names in flamenco, has been celebrated worldwide for her performances of flamenco puro; Rafaela Carrasco has become an important figure in the new generation of flamenco dancers and choreographers; and Olga Pericet has caused a sensation in flamenco circles in recent years and is considered as one of the most outstanding dancers of the younger generation.

I enjoyed the show. I liked the way there were pure musical interludes separating some of the dancing. Altho there was no set, they did use the lighting effectively. It was a long time since I last saw Flamenco and it has certainly evolved from the classic form to what I presume is the modern version.
