Tony Award-Winning Musical Spring Awakening by Keegan Theatre

Spring Awakening is an awesome rock musical and Broadway smash that won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Based on the Expressionist play that caused a scandal in 19th-century Germany, this poignant musical follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the confusing and often troubled waters of adolescence, complicated by their budding sexuality. Inspired by Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 play, the musical's angst, emotion, desire and romance still ring true today, and its acclaimed score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater turns this timeless story into a powerful coming-of-age rock musical. The Keegan Theatre's production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes nominees Susan Marie Rhea and Mark A. Rhea. Learn More

It was very comfortable---not cold for me.

Sweater for inside the theater would be a good idea. Just a little chilly - but not cool or cold.

Outstanding writing, excellent performances by all of the actors. Comfortable theater - just the right size for this production. If you want to see "Broadway-Quality" theater at a bargain price, you should see this play. It will certainly end up Off-Broadway, if not on Broadway.

Really enjoyed the play and connected with the characters. Loved the venue! It was a small and intimate setting and the brick church was beautiful.

The acting was very good except i could not hear actors when they were on the stage left (audience right). It is a very interesting play that stayed with me after I left.

Description

he Keegan Theatre brings celebrated playwright Liam Heylin’s new play Gdirl from Gdansk to the Church Street Theater. The world premiere production is directed by Joe Baker and Mark A. Rhea.  Gdirl from Gdansk tells the story of two brothers trying to survive beyond the shadow of their past in a changing Ireland. It is also a story of love -- between a young Polish immigrant and one of these brothers, and between the boys’ mother and a local man, discovering love as wounded adults.

This interwoven tale of love, jealousy, and a country in transition takes an unexpected turn as past resentment gets the better of the two brothers. Sad, funny, sweet, and dark. Heylin also wrote the much acclaimed ’Love, Peace & Robbery, which Keegan Theatre’s new island project presented last season. The production features Sheri Herren, Elizabeth Jernigan, Bruce Rauscher, and Irish imports Matthew Keenan and Aidan O’ Hare.
