The Washington Stage Guild presents Husbands and Lovers, from Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnar, author of such Stage Guild hits as The Guardsman, The Play's The Thing, and A Tale of The Wolf. With witty dialogue reminiscent of Oscar Wilde, Molnar presents comic scenes illustrating the many ways men and women can drive each other crazy. Molnar's wicked blend of realism and romanticism, cynicism and sentimentality perfectly captures the feelings inspired by romantic relationships.

George Bernard Shaw's Love Comedies Overruled and Village Wooing

Full Price:
$40.00 - $50.00
Our Price:
$20.00 - $25.00

The Washington Stage Guild, long known for its brilliant stagings of the works of Irish writer George Bernard Shaw, presents a pair of plays for this program, entitled Wives & Wits. The production consists of Overruled (1913) and Village Wooing (1933) -- selections that span Shaw's career and find him at his most entertaining and fun. Far from some of the acclaimed playwright's weightier works, this duo offers the chance to laugh at love, lovers and life itself. Alan Wade directs Overruled, while Laura Giannarelli helms Village Wooing. Learn More

We enjoyed this production. It was nice to have a number of different stories performed and the segues between stories were very nicely done. It was a pleasant play and was an hour and a half with no intermission, which is a refreshing change from some nearly three hour plays.

Took a bit to understand fully what was happening but once the idea came through really was able to relax and enjoy. Keep in mind this is not just about 2 couples for multiples more and as they come and go in character there is no relation to the previous couple.

The CAST did a fantastic job with their lines and making the skits believable if not for the period and place in which it is set but up to date for today.
