British soul singer Alice Russell's vocals are powerful enough to knock the entire notion of "blue-eyed soul" on its ear. The might of her pipes -- displayed on songs like "Heartbreaker," "For a While" and her unplugged cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" -- is surefire goose pimple fodder. Her star is definitely on the rise here in the States; you'll want to brag that you got to see her before she exploded. Russell's joined by Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, whose acoustic folk and R&B sound have won her comparisons to Feist and Norah Jones. This night of formidable femmes also features Hollie Cook, who took her musical roots -- her father is Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and her mother was part of the Culture Club -- and applied them to a distinct "tropical pop" sound that's all her own. This opera was a bit of a hidden gem. The music was outstanding and typically Bellini like. I believe it's lack of exposure is due to the distance between Shakespeare's play and the story line that Bellini pursued. The singing of the two women...continued
