More Details About This Event:

Recent scientific studies are beginning to prove what many ancient cultures (particularly Buddhist monks) have maintained for centuries: that mental discipline and meditative practice can change the workings of the brain and allow people to achieve different levels of awareness; "that the brain is capable of being trained and physically modified in ways few people can imagine" (Washington Post, January 3, 2005). Learn more about meditation and how such a brief activity every day can produce such dramatic, positive and healthful results in your life.

Join us as we experience the quiet, calming effects of meditation. You will discover: what meditation is, what it does, and the many benefits of practicing meditation. You will learn about the different styles and methods people use to meditate. In a group context, you will experience various guided techniques for relaxing the body and calming the mind. You will be encouraged and coached in how to develop your own personal meditation routine and how to consciously shift your focus and attention to where you would like it to be. Reduce stress and tension by learning to relax from within.

About the instructor: The speaker holds a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and is a graduate of the Baltimore School of Massage and Holistic Studies. He is a licensed, nationally certified massage therapist and an instructor of massage and meditation at George Washington University and Carroll Community College.
