Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Neil Simon provides a peek behind the scenes of TV's golden age in his 1993 hit comedy Laughter on the 23rd Floor. The show, which is based on Simon's own time spent on the writing staff of Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows, enjoyed both Broadway and West End runs. It depicts a harried staff frantically scrambling to top each other with gags while vying for the attention of star madman, Max Prince. A skillful mix of nostalgia, laughter, classic Catskills humor, colorful characters and more, Laughter on the 23rd Floor remains an enduring classic from a master of the form. This production, directed by Colin Smith, marks the Keegan Theatre's first foray into staging Simon.

Tony Award-Winning Musical Spring Awakening by Keegan Theatre

Full Price:
$40.00
Our Price:

Spring Awakening is an awesome rock musical and Broadway smash that won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Based on the Expressionist play that caused a scandal in 19th-century Germany, this poignant musical follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the confusing and often troubled waters of adolescence, complicated by their budding sexuality. Inspired by Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 play, the musical's angst, emotion, desire and romance still ring true today, and its acclaimed score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater turns this timeless story into a powerful coming-of-age rock musical. The Keegan Theatre's production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes nominees Susan Marie Rhea and Mark A. Rhea. Learn More

This performance was torturous and difficult to sit through. The cast seemed to have less enthusiasm than high school students. The stage props and lines were minimal, drab and flat.
Sold as a comedy, this was a melodrama with substance abuse, personality disorders, selfish behavior and everyone loosing his/her job.

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. Michael Innocenti was fantastic as the hypochondriac. The lead actor was also wonderfully daft. The first act was hilarious - the second not quite as effective. But that was Neil Simon's doing, not the cast's. The venue is fun also - very cozy and informal. Great job!

There hasn't been a production that I've seen at this theater that I didn't adore, but this was the best yet!! Great set, amazing cast and an enthralling play. I got so wrapped up in the characters that I could have been right there in that time and place. This is the greatest little theater in DC!! Big city production values -- down-to-earth people. You always feel welcome.
