Obviously, the "Shakespeare meets zombie wars" theme is pure awesomeness, but the company really pulled it off well. It's done with a great sense of humor, and there were more than a few moments that really made me laugh out loud. I really enjoyed how the script integrates so many varying styles of language, along with how characters who spoke so differently interacted with each other and played off the opposing speech patterns.Written on Aug 07 2009
The only criticism I can dig up is pretty minor -- this show has a couple of original songs, but it's not a musical and the songs are done in a campy vocal style. One character's number was pre-recorded, and the others (although I believe it was intentional) aren't at any risk of showing up on Broadway anytime soon. That said, it fit the irreverent style of the show, and I loved it. Just don't see "original music" and expect showtunes -- that's not the idea.
The cast is all very talented and pulled of their roles superbly, especially Megan Reichelt and Sarah Taurchini as Juliet and Puck, respectively, whose performances really clinched the whole thing. I look forward to seeing more from the Rorschach Theatre Company, and will probably go back to Denmark one more time before the end of this run.

This was an extremely clever script very well produced by the Rorschach Theatre. You will need some remedial understanding of Shakespeare to enjoy all the jokes, however there's enough camp, action, gore, and laughs for the uninitiated to feel sated, as well.Written on Aug 10 2009
DO: Go with an open mind and a willingness to experience something very different than what you're used to. Also, bring your sense of humor.
DON'T: Go if you take yourself or theater too seriously. This isn't you're kind of show.

Description
By Qui Nguyen
Directed By Casey Kaleba
It is five years after the tragic events that ended Shakespeare's Hamlet and Elsinore is ruled by a zombie king. Humanity on the brink of extinction, Lady Mac, Juliet and a seriously peeved Ophelia are brought back from the dead to battle the Zombies and Denmark's new King of Pain. Blood, limbs and jokes fly in playwright Qui Nguyen's love letter to Shakespeare, comic books and Hong Kong style action.
Living Dead In Denmark grew out of Qui Nguyen's and Robert Parker's company in New York, The Vampire Cowboys. Their works are a unique fusion of pop-culture and provocative ideas with a focus on stage combat as an exciting part of the storytelling process. Rorschach Theatre is no stranger to stage combat, with works like the Samurai love romance, Fair Ladies At A Game Of Poem Cards, but the epic battles and stylish action that take place in this production of Living Dead In Denmark will be unlike anything Washington has ever seen.
