Israeli singer Mika Karni and her group Kol Dodi create a modern sound by blending traditional Jewish melodies with African ethnic rhythms and elements of folk music. The band is made up of Israeli, Moroccan, Yemenite and Ethiopian musicians and singers, creating a musical picture of contemporary Israel, a country where cultures from around the world meld as one. Karni is one of Israel's favorite female vocalists, possessing the vocal ability to draw from a deep emotional well and convey both personal and universal feelings through her songs. Their performance at the Washington Jewish Music Festival features their re-interpretation one of the world's most beautiful love songs, Shir Ha'Shirim (The Song of Songs)
