It's Belfast, 1970. After the premiere of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," two boys -- one Protestant and one Catholic -- make their way through the war-torn streets as modern-day outlaws. Tony Award-Winning Musical Spring Awakening by Keegan Theatre

Full Price:
$40.00
Our Price:

Spring Awakening is an awesome rock musical and Broadway smash that won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Based on the Expressionist play that caused a scandal in 19th-century Germany, this poignant musical follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the confusing and often troubled waters of adolescence, complicated by their budding sexuality. Inspired by Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 play, the musical's angst, emotion, desire and romance still ring true today, and its acclaimed score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater turns this timeless story into a powerful coming-of-age rock musical. The Keegan Theatre's production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes nominees Susan Marie Rhea and Mark A. Rhea. Learn More

The two young actors are phenomenal performers, impersonators, whatever you want to call actors who act from natural instinct, called talent. Names to watch for. Christopher Dinolfo and Michael Innocenti.

Chris and Mike were awesome. It's the second time I've seen it, and I'm amazed at how active and inspired they are.

An interesting, funny, touching performance. The acting (the cast numbers only two) was outstanding. Some of the language was hard to understand--probably because it's Irish slang--but that didn't detract from our ability to follow what was going on.

The theater is small and arena-style; one can see and hear well, I think, from any seat.

Oddly, the Goldstar Events and newspaper blurbs note that this is a play about two boys, one Protestant and one Catholic, experiencing the strife of Belfast some decades ago, and so on. But if the blurbs hadn't said that, there would have been no way to know it until some time in the second half of the play--and it wasn't important. Take away the accent and the slang, and it could have been about two little boys and then two teenagers in any inner city--and it would be just as good.

Good show. The actors did a great job in playing multiple characters. The show was very dynamic and enjoyable. Hats off the Keegan for its excellent choice of material and casting.
