Members Who Went Said:The tour leader presented interesting information about various sites. She gave helpful suggestions for food to taste at several locations. She shared caramel candy and ginger candy with us. She waited for slow walkers to catch up before talking about a site. However, she could have improved logistics by counting tour members before we began the tour. We waited a little longer at stops because she wasn't sure we had all of the participants. Service at Ben's Chili Bowl was too slow and I'm not sure if she told them that we were on a walking tour and needed to leave by a certain time. Before entering the last stop, Cafe Love, she could have told us that a slice of cake or pie would cost $7 which is a bit high. We ran about 20 minutes over, so some of us would have bailed out before Cafe Love.
Choosy Frequent theatre-goer Very energetic tour guide, full of interesting facts and anecdotes. Nice SMALL group so it was easy to hear and easy to stay together. All in all a fun experience, but $7 for a small piece of cake?! I could have done without the last stop at the cake place.
sondra plan b great and different restaurants in DC with history - our tour guide really enjoyed what she was doing- would recommend using this service again |

More Details About This Event: Come along on this three-hour nibble-and-nosh fest that celebrates locally grown and locally invented foods. The group will stay on the move, hearing tales of gastronomic history along the way -- from the inaugural party-turned-food fight to Mrs. Terrell’s quiet milestone in civil rights. The territory first covers the heart of downtown, where nary a suit in the lunch-hour crowd realizes he’s swarming in Washington’s former market neighborhood. These days, think bubble tea, ginger scones and coffee roasted only a stone’s throw away.
Bring along a subway fare card, as the tour will then be hopping the Metro to catch two of DC’s most famous drop-in eateries. You'll get an introduction to an edible creation known as a half-smoke, then you'll stop in for a dessert course at the bakery/café founded by DC’s current Food Network celebrity. Munch, sip, walk, repeat. Who’s counting calories with rhythm like that? The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and will happen rain or shine. About Washington Walks: The best way to tour any historic city is by foot. Tree-lined neighborhoods, famous (and infamous) personalities, architecture, majestic memorials, African American history, local edibles—it's all waiting for you to discover with Washington Walks! About Archives-Navy Memorial Metro Station: The Archives-Navy Memorial station, in downtown Washington on the Yellow and Green lines, is convenient to the Smithsonian museums and to the Seventh Street theater district. |
