Named after the thought-limiting language in George Orwell's 1984
, Newspeak Ensemble is an eight-member classical ensemble that started performing together in 2008, and quickly gained recognition within New York's "indie-classical" scene. Blending classical instrumentation and composition techniques with punk, post-rock, prog and metal elements, Newspeak's complex, evocative and often politically charged music makes them one of the most intense and exciting new music groups working today. At the Atlas performing Arts Center, they'll be playing works written by ensemble members Caleb Burhans and David T. Little, as well as music by modern composers Oscar Bettison and Frederic Rzewskim, Ruby Fulton and Corey Dargel.
