Tony Award-Winning Musical Spring Awakening by Keegan Theatre

Spring Awakening is an awesome rock musical and Broadway smash that won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Based on the Expressionist play that caused a scandal in 19th-century Germany, this poignant musical follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the confusing and often troubled waters of adolescence, complicated by their budding sexuality. Inspired by Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 play, the musical's angst, emotion, desire and romance still ring true today, and its acclaimed score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater turns this timeless story into a powerful coming-of-age rock musical. The Keegan Theatre's production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes nominees Susan Marie Rhea and Mark A. Rhea. Learn More

This is an outstanding production of one of the funniest plays ever written. Wonderful cast and comic ensemble; very precise direction. Dottie should get a Helen Hayes for this one!Written on Jul 27 2010
AC not a problem when we attended July 26th.

This was an enjoyable production, well acted. Would underscore the need for improved a/c. You do need to arrive early as there is open seating.Written on Jul 27 2010

It was hilarious and well done. Two things though -- come early, the last two rows were NOT meant for those of us with average to long legs. The other is, the AC MUST BE FIXED. I attended with a friend the same day DC endured 110-115 degrees heat index, and it was NOT working. At 11pm, it was still 96 degrees outside, which is at least what it felt like inside, given the full house/mass of humanity. That said, the ensemble cast were wonderfully on point with the physical comedy demanded of a farce... some English accents desperately need attending to but that is overlook-able. Notwithstanding the extreme temps (hopefully the AC is fixed, we were afraid someone might die, or at least have a baby at a very inappropriate time) it was a good time, and I might even have LOVED it had I not been quite so miserable from the heat and narrow seating :)Written on Jul 26 2010

Wandering Star
The first couple of acts were entertaining. It went on too long and the whole thing fell apart by the third act. It was a clever idea but they should have stopped after two acts. The last act was just slapstick with no plot or even sense of why they were all hitting each other over the head.Written on Aug 09 2010

More Information About Noises Off
Website
Description
Noises Off uses the concept of “play within a play,” in which the first act of a bawdy comedic romp called Nothing On is performed three separate times in different phases of a tour.
Noises Off is directed by Keegan’s Producing Artistic Director Mark A. Rhea. Says Rhea, “Keegan’s 2009–2010 season has had its share of heavy dramatic hitters. From Of Mice and Men to Gdansk to Lughnasa, we’ve given our audiences a lot to think about. We thought it was time to dish up some laughter, especially during these hot D.C. summer months. And, if you’re going to do a comedy, why not tackle one of the greatest – if not the greatest – modern comedies ever written?”
Noises Off features Charlotte Akin, Michael Innocenti, Elizabeth Jernigan, Jim Jorgensen, Robert Leembruggen, Brianna Letourneau, Susan Marie Rhea, Colin Smith and Jon Townson.
