The brunch was exactly what I'd hoped for on a leisurely afternoon date. First, the food selection was well suited to diverse tastes and offered an array of choices for breakfast fans (waffles, bacon, fruits, pastries, pancakes, french toast) and for lunch fans (pasta, chicken, fish, vegetables, breads). The unlimited soft drinks and champagne rounded out the food well - as did the excellent desserts. We're not talking James Beard award winning cuisine - but the food competed well with any 3.5/4 star hotel Sunday brunch - on a smaller scale.
The live band and dj music were popular with the crowd, who danced to a variety of styles and genres. The crowd was diverse and ranged from mothers and young daughters, to a group of senior citizens. My date and I chose to spend our time on the outdoor deck, which had plenty of seating and was quiet and reflective. It was a great area for picture taking or nice conversation on a great day.
Apparently, the high-water caused by rain often prevents this cruise from reaching areas of DC that tourists most want to see. This is because one of the local bridges cannot accommodate the size of the Odyssey when waters are particularly high. This problem happened on our trip, so we were forced to see more of Northern Virginia's sights than we wanted. That having been said, it wasn't the Odyssey's fault, so we made the best of the experience. Though there were less sights to see, the public address system thoroughly explained all that we could see along the journey, and the insights were interesting.
All in all, it was a reasonably priced and very unique way to spend a Sunday afternoon in DC. I'd definitely do it again.
