Syrian singer Omar Souleyman and his synth partner, keyboardist Rizan Sa'id, get the joint jumping with their innovative brand of techno-folk, based on the Middle Eastern dance music known as dabke. Once a favorite at weddings, Souleyman's influence has now spread throughout the world, after Bjork picked him to record three remixes for her acclaimed Biophilia disc. Since then, he's released his own well-received studio album, Wenu Wenu, and appeared at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Norway, not to mention major music festivals in Denmark, the UK and even at Tennessee's famed Bonnaroo. Pete Rock & CL Smooth proved that they still have the great rhythms and rhymes that made them so popular in the early 90s hip hop world. Most songs sounded fresh, with a lot of energy and great reaction from the nearly sold out crowd. However, like many rap shows it seems, on many songs they only rapped for about a minute, or just one verse of a song. I don't know why they don't perform the entire song. They did perform the entire 'T.R.O.Y' to end their hour set to the crowd's delight.
