Following successful runs at the Gift Theatre in Chicago and the Roundabout Theatre in New York, Andrew Hinderaker's dark comedy Suicide, Incorporated, comes to the H Street Playhouse. Tensions rise when it's discovered that a wayward employee at a company whose business is writing suicide letters is now trying to save the lives of clients. It was definitely entertaining. My friend enjoyed it also. He said it was ok. The little girl was quite impressive. Everyone in the audience thought so. I can't recall the character's name, but she was the surrogate mother for the crew. Everyone was rather good in the play, but she was most outstanding.Written on Mar 08 2012

Wonderful experience!Written on Mar 06 2012
Here are some positives:
(1) Interesting twist on the "traditional" shows about Peter Pan.
(2) The actors playing Peter and Smee/Tootles were superb.
(3) Great Designs for the Set, Lighting, Sound, Costumes and Make-up.
Here is the one negative:
(1) The actors playing Wendy & Mrs. Darling/Capt. Hook were often speaking at such rapid rate it was difficult to follow what they were saying.

The beauty, the horror, the dream, the nightmare, the fantasy and the reality of childhood are harmoniously juxtaposed in this original rendition of Peter Pan. This is a stark contrast to the Disney cartoon. Instead, this play takes an in depth look at the child psychology that is at the root of J.M. Barrie’s original source material. The brilliant staging blurs the line between the real world of the Darling’s nursery and the surreal fantasy of Neverland. Gone is the false, idealized image of childhood innocence. Don’t be fooled by preconceived notions of Peter Pan; this is not a children’s production. The play’s haunting set, sound effects and performances will prove effectively chilling even for adults. However, as is the case with childhood, to every place of darkness, there is a place of light and beauty. The actors performances were heart-wrenching, especially those by the three leads, Peter, Wendy and Mrs. Darling/Captain Hook. Unlike what is usually the case, here the adult cast manages to magically transform into startlingly realistic children. Although not everyone’s cup of tea, if you are a person of imagination, you will be able to appreciate that Peter Pan, the Boy Who Hates Mothers is pure magic.Written on Feb 17 2012
