Shakespeare's epic poem of love and seduction Venus and Adonis joins Mozart's opera The Magic Flute in repertory, each work vividly re-imagined by the groundbreaking South African theater troupe Isango Ensemble. Scored with marimbas and drums, Isango's Magic Flute has placed the fantastical Egyptian tale of a wayward prince in the underdeveloped townships of contemporary South Africa. For Venus and Adonis, they have interpreted the Goddess of Love's enchantment with the beautiful Adonis through a scrim of carnival-like theatricality, music and dance, performing the text in three different African languages as well as English. Having played to sold-out venues around the world, Isango now brings its fascinating multicultural takes on these classics of Western drama to Shakespeare Theatre Company. Learn More

Excellent production of one of Noel Coward's best plays. I loved the black and white 1931 film with Norma Shearer and Robert Montgomery and this is just as good if not better whereas I did not like Shakespeare's Theatre Company version of Noel Coward's Brief Encounter, one of Britain's favorite films of all times. A must see!
