"Ay dios mio" meets "oy vey" in Nicole Gomez Fisher's Sleeping With the Fishes
, a comic slice-of-life set within the Latino-Jewish culture of Brooklyn. Alexis Rodriguez Fish has hit an all-time-low. She's a widow whose former husband was cheating on her and also left her deep in debt. Forced to take humiliating odd jobs like dressing as a giant meatball sandwich, she's struggling to get by. When an aunt's funeral brings her home again, Alexis realizes her life might just get worse before it gets any better. Suddenly re-immersed in her Latin and Jewish roots, Alexis feels like a fish out of water, and matters don't get any easier when her sister signs Alexis up to coordinate a superhero-themed Bat Mitzvah. This charming and wacky comedy features an incredible Latino cast of established and rising talent, including up-and-comer Gina Rodriguez as Alexis and Tony-winner Priscilla Lopez as Alexis' overbearing mother. Director Nicole Gomez Fisher will appear in person at the screening.
