Dubbed "an enchantingly beautiful dancer" by The New York Times, soloist and choreographer Aparna Ramaswamy brings her work Sannidhi (Sacred Space) to Atlas, accompanied by live music. This lyrical piece celebrates both the divine and the natural worlds, blending the spiritual and secular and bringing the past and present together through this beautiful, traditional type of dance. Ramaswamy is an acclaimed specialist in the classical Indian form of Bharata Natyam, and is set to be accompanied by vocalist Lalit Subramaniam, percussionist Rajna Swaminathan and violinist Anjna Swaminathan. Tonight, I needed something light: Sole Defined "Black: Amer I Can"
Tap dance extraordinaire (and producer) Ryan Johnson redefines our definitions of tap dance with explorations of sand dance, Step, and African and Hip Hop influences. Mixed media tells the story with visuals and spoken word and DC's heartbeat, Christylez Bacon providing all the 'extras'. Energetic and fun time!!
There will be an included, optional post-show discussion with the cast after each performance.
