Broadway sensations Douglas Sills (Gomez) and Sara Gettelfinger (Morticia) star in this nationally touring production of the Broadway smash The Addams Family. A magnificently macabre new musical comedy, the show was created by an award-winning team that includes authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party) and more. This fresh take on the original comic-turned-TV-and-movie-series boasts a new story featuring your favorite characters, including Gomez, Morticia, Lurch, Uncle Fester and Wednesday -- who's all grown up now and in love with a "normal" young man. Whether their relationship can survive her family's kooky hijinks is anyone's guess.

One of the best shows I've seen yet. The set and cast was captivating and there was never a dull moment.

The show is a repackaged "Le Cage Aux Folles.". Some music was stirring, but other tunes were forgettable. The graveyard people served little purpose. The show had nice humorous moments, and some effective sight gags. It is a worthwhile evening's diversion, but failed to ascend to a first rate production.

Some of the singing talent was quite good. The direction was lacking in many scenes as actors stood on stage simply watching one another sing. The casting for Morticia was very questionable.

We comprised a group of 4 adults, one 18 yr old and one 13 yr old. We liked our orchestra seats in row Y. There were a lot of negative reviews so our expectations were not too high. This is a musical and I would agree with the negative comments about the songs. They sounded very formulaic, like they had been computer generated based on popular broadway numbers. That said, having seen the original broadway production of Shrek which we thoroughly enjoyed, the music in The Addams Family is better. It is a shame that they did not use the tv theme song more.

We thought the entire cast were terrific. The standouts were Gomez and Uncle Fester, but they were all good. The singing was excellent and far surpassed the material they were given to sing. We felt the sets could have been more elaborate. It is the first show I can remember seeing that used the curtain a lot for effect, but there was a vaguely vaudeville feel to the whole production so I suppose this was in keeping with that vibe. We would not rush to see it again, but we all agreed it was an entertaining evening that was worth the cost of the tickets purchased through Goldstar.

Lots of very funny one-liners and lyrics, very good dance, incredibly forgettable music. The first act is funnier than the second, which dragged. The kids (11 and 12 year olds) loved the humor especially. There was some sexual innuendo, but I think it would go over the heads of younger kids. Basically, a fun family night-out.

High quality road show missing some (but not all) of the spark of the broadway version. Pugsly and Uncle Fester bring down the house with featured songs "Pulled" and "The Moon and Me". Overall a solid, high quality production with the exception of the sound engineering, which made dead-pan sound a little too flat.

It was shlocky, predictable and great fun. If you go expecting the deadpan Wednesday or the dry, serene delivery of Morticia you will be disappointed. But if you put that aside (and that for some reason Morticia sounds like Holly Hunter), the laughter is real. Is it "great" theater? No. Is if "fun" theater? Absolutley.

"The Addams Family" is such a disappointing production, flawed in so many ways, that it's hard to know where to begin. I loved the Raul Julia and Angelica Huston movie versions of Addams Family, and even liked the old TV version of it, so I was definitely pre-disposed to like the theatrical version. But there is no plot to the play, which is a definite obstacle to a successful production. It's not as if a complicated plot-line or Shakespearean eloquence is expected of a production of The Addams Family, but a plot is needed that goes beyond the Addams meeting Wednesday's boyfriend and her family for dinner one night. Hanging the play on a dinner just doesn't work. A dramatic conflict is contrived about Gomez and Morticia, but it doesn't seem real in the slightest. Since the plot is so weak, the songs that discuss the plot are equally weak since there's very little substance to them. When one of the signature songs is called "Full Disclosure," you know you're in trouble. Added to the general lack of plot and lackluster song lyrics was uninspiring dancing and tepid acting on the part of Morticia and Wednesday. The show rolled along but never lifted off, sad to say.

It was funny at times, boring other times.
Uncle Fester steals the show. Mortica poorly cast.

Great fun. I was tickled listening to people trying to explain The Addams Family to younger people who are not familiar with the TV show.

I had read the reviews about the production in New York and was not expecting a superb production. Was I wrong! The show was outstanding in every way and the audience loved it. The performers were superb. The singing and dancing were great. I am planning to go again and take my granddaughter. I am a enthusiastic theater goer and I highly recommend the Addams Family! Don't miss this show.

The Addams Family was fun and entertaining for all ages. The musical was true to the original TV show yet also contemporary. A wonderful show for the summer.

Absolutely loved it. Better than expected. Sets, singing, acting, comedy were all top notch. Audience was laughing hysterically. Go! Go! Go! (especially at Goldstar's price)

After reading some of the reviews on the play, I was a bit prepared to be disappointed - fortunately, I was preparing for an eventuality that didn't have a possibility of happening. The actors were fantastic, the music was wonderful, and the energy of the crowd was upbeat and ready to be pleased. From the moment people snapped to the intro music until they rose to give a standing ovation, the entire night was filled with pleasure.

This show was so amazing and funny and great for all ages! The songs were very clever, and it was classic and true to the show I watched growing up, but still wonderful for my kids even though they weren't really familiar with the show. Our seats were great as well - near the back of the orchestra section, but a perfect view of the stage.

The Addams Family was a Broadway like production. The cast, sets, and sound quality were superb. It's a must see show.

My fiance and I felt the storyline was hackneyed - been there done that. Lucas even makes mention to it in the second act. The songs weren't very memorable and "The Game" was not the spooky plot driver as I'd hoped Addams Family would have it be.
The highlights were Granny's scenes and Uncle Fester's love song to the moon. I'm honestly glad I didn't pay full price to see it.
Also, Hand and Cousin It BARELY have but 5 second long cameos a few times. Wish they were in the plot.

The show was very well done and very entertaining. My wife and I had a great time. I would gladly attend again and would strongly recommend it to others interested in musical theatre, and perhaps even those who aren't.

Quotes & Highlights

Description

The Addams Family is a smash-hit musical comedy that brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. This magnificently macabre new musical comedy is created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk–winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys), and Olivier Award–winning director/designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter) with creative consultation by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks.

It's every parent's nightmare. Your little girl has suddenly become a young woman, and what's worse, has fallen deliriously in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. Yes, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has a "normal" boyfriend, and for parents Gomez and Morticia, this shocking development will turn the Addams house downside up.
Come meet the family. We'll leave the lights off for you…
