I wanted to see this as it was playing in Chicago when I visited last, but was pretty booked and expensive. I throughly enjoyed it. M. Zimmerman's blend of storytelling with some dramatic acting out is more compelling than traidtional theatre--...continued

After seeing Zimmerman's take on CANDIDE last month, I was all over this opportunity to see another work she directed. And I was not disappointed. I had a hard time dragging myself to Arena Stage after working all day to make an 8 pm curtain on a...continued

The Arena Stage's Arabian Nights is a spectacular production and should be seen by all lovers of theater. Written and directed by Mary Zimmerman, who just enriched Washington with her production of Candide, she gives us an updated version of...continued

I enjoyed this production very much - loved the portrayal of the ancient story of Scheherezade and her 1001 tales of love, seduction, betrayal and wisdom. The ending brought tears to my eyes as it evoked the mortality and vulnerability of the...continued

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, magically transported as we were to exotic lands and different times, but with universal elements of the human condition in play. Delightful staging and music complimented Scheherazade's stories.

Absolutely loved this show! I went knowing the story and curious how they would put it on stage and was absolutely blown away. Not only were they more true to the original than I expected but it was incredibly well done. I found myself totally...continued

This staging of "The Arabian Nights" has already been performed and reviewed positively in Chicago, Kansas City, and Berkeley before reaching Washington, so I wasn't taking a huge risk in buying a preview ticket here. If you enjoyed fairy tales...continued

The plot had so much potential, as did the story, however, the acting was extremely weak. The actors and actresses overacted, missed lines, and their voices were definitely below standard. In fact, the talent was surprisingly weak. We have been to...continued

We went with excitement and high expectations, but this adaptation disappointed as it somehow often managed to lose or trivialize/modernize the most magical, surprising and lyrical aspects of the written Arabian nights. So, whether you do or do...continued

This is a warm, delicate, funny and sensitive production. Relatively simple in design, the storytelling unfolds in multiple layers. The actors are wonderful at assuming multiple roles. Suprises abound. This is a must see.

I'm glad we went because the new theatre is amazing, the play was imaginative and the cast was outstanding. But some dialog was difficult to hear because it's in the round, and it was therefore difficult to follow some of the confusing story...continued

Different ... all actors are very talented. They play different roles throughout the show ... and show their unique talents.

It was obvious that everyone worked hard but I got bored half way through. Didn't like the whole "farting" scene.

Very clever set and such a perfectly woven tale that keeps you interested,...fab musical instruments (tabla, drums, string) were played by the actors on stage...some of the tales are hard to follow, but you get the generally idea! Please...for...continued

I really enjoyed the acting, set, choreography, music and play, but would have liked the play to be a bit shorter.

It was great to be back at Arena. The new theater has more bathrooms, more room to mill around and very attractive. The staging, costumes and production was great as it always is at Arena.Stories were fun and entertaining, and at times, very...continued
