This is an opera to see, but one that is rarely presented as it is a major undertaking to stage with its large casts and changes of time and place, plus it requires numerous lead singers in roles which are especially challenging to sing. WNO has...continued

The production was just not very good. I think that's enough said.

Francesca Zambello freshened up this opera. This production, with its updated sets hinting of Spain but feeling global,...continued

We thought the singers were very good, leads and the chorus did a wonderful job. We also loved the set. The only weak point was the women's costumes, especially for the lead! An added bonus was the post-concert Q & A sessiojn with members of the...continued

I did not care for this opera, either the music or the production. Costumes and sets were garish and the singing mixed. The lead tenor was not strong but several supporting players were very good both singing and stage presence. However, it was...continued

Less familiar with the music of this opera. Thought singing was good. It was an enjoyable evening. Kept both my husband and I awake after full day at work.

Adina Aaron has a passionate, controlled (but expressive voice), a joy to listen to; the sets were fantastic and gave the production a unique and edgy feel. Sitting close allowed us to appreciate the acting more than usual. Supertitles were...continued

The venue was great as always. Too much emphasis on Jesus in the middle...but it's an Italian opera...so it's bound to happen once in a while. I like the modern interpretation of the old Verdi classic. Set design was very nice, very well done.

Though most of the singing was wonderful--far more than Anne Midgette's review would have made you think--the production is TERRIBLE. This plot does not fit in the modern grunge sets and costumes, and it is hard to watch a brilliantly sung Leonora...continued

We were practically in the front row. Not quite as good as the last opera we saw at the Kennedy Center, but still a treat. Goldstar delivers again.

It's too bad that Ann Midgette's review in the Post was so sour. (Despite the abundance of half-price tickets, there were many empty seats.) I might have preferred a more traditional staging, but maybe not....I had never seen this opera before. ...continued
