Event Highlights
More Details About This Event: When Lowell, the central character, sets off on an international business trip, he ends up with a bad case of cultural jet-lag. In an unnamed country where he does not speak the language, the normally confident Lowell struggles to find his footing. Are his colleagues impressed by him, or laughing at him? What are all those mysterious announcements on the office PA system? And the alluring new woman in his life -- who is she really?
Lowell isn’t the only one operating outside his comfort zone; the playwright has invented a new language for The Internationalist, and the audience sees the world through his eyes. When Lowell doesn’t understand the language, neither does the audience. New York’s hip young theatre company 13P developed this fresh and fascinating comedy by one of its resident playwrights, Anne Washburn. Directed by Kirk Jackson, who helmed last season’s Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, the production brings together acclaimed actor Tyler Pierce (Fat Pig) and Holly Twyford, making her return to the Washington stage. About The Studio Theatre: The Studio Theatre's mission is to produce the best in contemporary theatre. Its restless, innovative spirit makes The Studio Theatre a leader both in Washington and in the nation. Artist-founded and artist-driven, The Studio Theatre demands the highest quality production values, bringing audiences unparalleled artistry in performance, directing and design. 2ndstage provides opportunities for emerging and established local and national artists, and their Special Events feature unique productions and one-of-a-kind performers from around the world. |
