The glory and delicacy of nature is the inspiration for this special orchestral program by The New Orchestra of Washington, performing intimate chamber orchestra versions of pieces usually found only in cavernous concert halls. This flora-and-fauna driven show features Impressionist Master Claude Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" and two pieces by Gustav Mahler: his titanic 1st Symphony, with allusions to nature's awakening at dawn, along with Blumine ("Flora"), a discarded movement from the same symphony. The actors were all really talented. They played multiple roles and had top notch performances. There were two intermissions and it was a bit on the long side (2.5 hours with intermissions), but we thoroughly enjoyed the adaptation of the movie. Very moving and poignant.
This show's running time is two hours and 30 minutes, including two intermissions.
Due to mature themes, descriptions of violence and profanity, this show is recommended for those age 13 or older.
