Although it starts slowly, this play becomes more and more engrossing as it unfolds. Especially interesting is the additional background information on the painting in question on display in the lobby at the end of the show.

This was just a really well acted and thoughtful play. The topic was surprisingly interesting given that my husband and I are not art lovers. I'd recommend it and any plays done by the Washington Stage Guild.

Dress was casual. The entrance is on the side, you don't walk through the church. It's a gorgeous building. And, during intermission we tried to go up to the church but everything was locked. There were refreshments and snacks. The play was well...continued

As alwAys fabulously acted. Agree with others on first act but it pays off in the end.

Very interesting play. Unfortunately the acoustics in the venue were not good but the acting was.

Loved the theme of the play. As someone else said, it started out slowly, but picked up. I would encourage others to see it, especially if they enjoy art.

We enjoyed this play quite a bit. The acting was very good, the theme was quite intriguing and we liked how they had information about the painting and the real-life characters in the lobby so we could learn a little more. That we can actually...continued

I recommend this play to anyone with an interest in western art or art history.

Being an art lover, myself, and a bit familiar with who Berensen and Duveen were, if not many specifics of their lives, I was looking forward to this play, and I...continued

I'm an avid theatre goer, but this was my first time for Washington Stage Guild. It won't be my last -- this was a terrific production of a riveting play.

very well done. First part could have been tighter, but over all, very interesting show about attribution of paintings , personal relationships and the context of Italy and the world at the eve of the second world war.

The Old Masters is a cerebral play well produced by the Washington Stage Guild. Set in Florence on the eve of World War II, it deals with the strained relations between two historical figures, art historian Bernard Berenson and art dealer Joseph...continued

We were a group of six, all associated with the National Gallery, and enjoyed the play immensely. It was well-written, well-acted and contained many thought provoking ideas about connoisseurship and the art market. We spent several hours after...continued

The Washington Stage Guild presents plays with intellectual content in a small theater with general admission seating. THE OLD MASTERS is a 2004 Simon Gray play, set in pre-WW II Italy, about the art critic Bernard Berenson and a dispute over...continued

My only problem was with the lack of an audio assist device, which deprived me of some of the dialogue - especially spoken by the women. What I did hear was clever and the portrayals were excellent. I'm sorry there wasn't a larger audience.
