This warmhearted, humorous play that won Alfred Uhry the 1988 Pulitzer looks at the unexpected friendship between a fiercely independent Southern white woman and her African-American chauffeur. It's 1948, and after Daisy, an elderly Jewish widow who lives in Atlanta, has a driving mishap in which her automobile is demolished, her son hires Hoke Colburn to be her driver. Initially resistant, Miss Daisy gradually starts to accept Hoke over time, and an unlikely friendship begins to grow between the two. Ultimately a sweet tale of the transformative power of true friendship, the play also touches on the racism and prejudice that permeated the South at the time. Acclaimed Washington stage actors Nancy Robinette (called the Meryl Streep of Washington theater) and Craig Wallace return to Ford's to perform in this beloved classic. Learn More
Parking is always an adventure downtown. We parked very easily in the adjacent parking garage, but had a little trouble getting into it to leave...beautiful evening, folks on street getting parking tickets... all's well that ends well.Driving Miss Daisy info • Sep 29 2014 star this tip starred

Over the course of seven debates, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas tackled the hot topics of their day: state’s rights, slavery and the intent of the Constitution. The Rivalry captures the fiery rhetoric and wry humor of those debates, while adding the insights of Douglas’s wife, Adele. As Lincoln and Douglas race for the chance to be U.S. Senator, Adele reexamines her own concepts of freedom. Ford’s Theatre Director of Theatre Programming Mark Ramont directs Robert Parsons as Abraham Lincoln, Helen Hayes Award winner Rick Foucheux and Sarah Zimmerman (The Matchmaker).
