Theater J's adaptation of Anton Chekhov's drama The Seagull draws inspiration from Louis Malle's 1994 film Vanya on 42nd Street, which centered on a bare-bones production of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya in a Broadway theater. This new production journeys from Washington back to the Russian countryside for a tale of artistic conflict, spiritual yearning, love, loss, jealousy and laughs.

Full Price:
$25.00 - $60.00
Our Price:
$12.50 - $30.00

Behind the larger-than-life Man of Steel was Jerry Siegel, a real-life young Jewish man with an active imagination. Together with artist Joe Shuster, Siegel co-created Superman -- one of the most enduring superheroes in comic book history. The History of Invulnerability, penned by David Bar Katz (Philip Roth in Khartoum), offers an imagined look at Siegel's struggles as the creative father, and his attempts to retain control of his famous creation as America was drawn into the horrors of World War II. Shirley Serotsky directs this Arthur Tracy "The Street Singer" Endowment production. Learn More

A bit confusing at first. Hard to seperate out the real Chekov from the additions, but it was enjoyable, especially the second half.

Description

By Anton Chekhov
Translation by Carol Rocamora
Adapted by Ari Roth
Directed by John Vreeke

Youth is envied, challenged and mortally wounded in this tale by the great Russian master. Inspired by Vanya on 42nd Street, our own 16th Street theater and the dynamic clash between spiritual yearning and our artistic ambitions provides the stage for a journey back to the Russian countryside in this tale of artistic conflict, love, loss, jealousy and lots of laughs.
