After an $8 million renovation, the gorgeous art-deco Bethesda Theatre is now Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club, a top spot for live music, dining and drinking. The club offers great entertainment from top national blues and jazz artists, plus the best talent from the mid-Atlantic region, in an intimate setting with excellent acoustics. Enjoy a great dinner served up with a little blues and jazz -- Executive Chef William Pack, Jr., has created a Creole/Cajun-inspired menu with a bevy of mouthwatering choices, including delicious desserts. This would have been a waste of time even if it had been a free performance.
I evaluated this from the standpoint of being an eclectic music lover and from a professional standpoint as a singer, actor and improvisational comedian. "THIEFS" was a pathetic performance-- a case of, to borrow an analogy from the classic, international children's story, "the emperor has no clothes". It was a trio of marginally talented people on 3 instruments (with distorted amplifiers) doing simple-minded and repetitive sounds. It was not jazz. It wasn't any genre, just self- indulgent cacophony.
The vocals were a horror show. However the three were very satisfied with themselves, as the self- deluded always are.
