This was most fun I've had in a while. An all-around great production: smart, hilarious, irreverent, thoughtful, and frenetic. Well worth seeing. Note: If you're sitting in the front row, there's a good chance you'll get involved in one of the plays. Be a good sport and play along.

Too strange. Didn't like play about Obama - very disrespectful. I thought it would be better political satire.

This is one of the wackiest, avant garde, hilarious, frantic shows I've ever experienced. It was great fun and entirely unique. The premise is that the cast have 30 plays that they attempt to complete in 60 minutes. There is a LOT of audience participation - most of it hysterical and some a little uncomfortable, but all in fun. Deals with adult themes, so I would not recommend this for kids. They switch out plays every night so no two shows are the same - I am definitely going back!

Description

Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, which had its first performance on December 2, 1988, is now in its 20th year, making it the longest-running show in Chicago today. With its ever-changing "menu," Too Much Light... is an attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes. With a menu of vignettes ranging from zany to risqué to profound, it’s the perfect interactive holiday treat for DC’s quickwitted audiences. The single unifying element of these plays is that they are performed from a perspective of absolute honesty. The show's performers always appear as themselves on stage, speaking directly from their personal experiences. Each short play is written by a performer, honed by the ensemble, and randomly collaged with 29 other plays through high-energy audience participation. Each week, these plays shift as ensemble members add new plays to the existing body of work. In every show, the performers create an unreproducable, "living newspaper" collage of the comic and tragic, the political and personal, and the visceral and experimental.
