Choreographer Vicky Shick kicks off American Dance Institute's 2014-15 performance season with Everything You See, an innovative dance work that premiered last year at NYC's Danspace Project. A collaboration between Shick, costume and set designer Barbara Kilpatrick and sound design Elise Kermani, Everything You See places the audience sits on opposite sides of a semi-transparent fiberglass curtain that horizontally bisects the stage, revealing two dances performed simultaneously. Kermani's sound composition mirrors and enlivens the layering of the overlapping duets and trios performed by 10 dancers. Learn More
Quotes & Highlights
“There is no doubt that Vincent E. Thomas is an ambitious choreographer.” —Washington Post
For his newest work, Witness, award-winning choreographer Vincent E. Thomas explores simple truths in human behaviors and implied truths in human documents from the Pledge of Allegiance to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Thomas is a 2008 Kennedy Center Local Dance Commission Project Award recipient. He founded VTDance as an outlet for performance projects including solo, group and collaborative choreographic endeavors. VTDance builds on the use of contemporary dance, improvisation, text/ movement, a variety of sound sources and collaborations with other artists, including dancers, musicians, poets and visual artists to create multi-dimensional works. These ideas coupled with witty, poignant, athletic and gestural movement create the rich palette for VTDance.
