American Ballet Theatre, regarded as one of the world's finest dance companies, brings an evening of spirited dance to the Kennedy Center with their performance of Don Quixote. Matadors, gypsies and lively street scenes evoke a storybook Spain, with nonstop dancing to Ludwig Minkus' melodic score. The mixed rep shows include works by Fokine, (Les Sylphides, Gomes (Aftereffect) and Ashton (The Dream). For over 70 years, American Ballet Theatre has wowed audiences everywhere with their passion, innovation and athleticism. The New York Times called them "American ballet at its peak," and it's easy to see why. Learn More
Quotes & Highlights
“There is no doubt that Vincent E. Thomas is an ambitious choreographer.” —Washington Post
For his newest work, Witness, award-winning choreographer Vincent E. Thomas explores simple truths in human behaviors and implied truths in human documents from the Pledge of Allegiance to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Thomas is a 2008 Kennedy Center Local Dance Commission Project Award recipient. He founded VTDance as an outlet for performance projects including solo, group and collaborative choreographic endeavors. VTDance builds on the use of contemporary dance, improvisation, text/ movement, a variety of sound sources and collaborations with other artists, including dancers, musicians, poets and visual artists to create multi-dimensional works. These ideas coupled with witty, poignant, athletic and gestural movement create the rich palette for VTDance.
