A gay rap opera? Not your Mama's Gilbert & Sullivan musical! An absolute-entertainment "marriage" of the LGBT struggle for equal rights and the oft-maligned rap music scene. I was astounded by the physicality of the actors' interpretation of the touching and violent struggle for self-identity and equality. Go see it, you will definitely be entertained and moved by this unique production.Written on Jul 08 2011
Also, Michael, AD, did a wonderful reworking of the layout of the stage and seating - no more post-seats.

This is an amazing show. I loved it! It's non-stop, really funny, and not a dull moment. The music and lyrics are great. The two actors are mesmerizing and play at least a dozen different characters. It's a tiny theater so it's as if you're right there on stage with them. It's Brokeback Mountain meets Romeo and Juliet meets Little Wayne. It's like nothing I've seen before, but wonderful and unforgettable.Written on Jun 17 2011

I really did not know what to expect from this show and since I am not a big RAP fan I thought I was going to hate it. I was pleasently surprised. At a brisk 70 minutes without an intermission the show flies by with the exception of a video montage at the very end that goes on way too long and breaks the momentum. It makes the final scene seem like an after thought. I did see the final preview so there is still time for them to fix it before they open. It really brings the show to a screeching halt after it has so sucesfully built the action. It only needs to be as long as it takes the actors to reposition themselves for their entrance for the last scene. If that section is fixed than I would definitely rate the show "I LOVED IT."The Rap lyrics were provocative and served the material well. The 2 performers, Sean Bradford and Chris Ferro, work their asses off and they are both great. They do not get a minute to rest and they keep you riveted. This past season the Celebration Theater has gotten creative with the seating configuration for the shows and the staging for this show has yet another design which works well. Defiitely worth checking it out!Written on Jun 10 2011

Description
First comes love, then comes marriage, but the possibility of a happy ending is shattered for newlyweds Jack and Dillon after one is viciously attacked by a gang of homophobic thugs. Despair and rage turns the other down the path of vigilante justice with tragic results. Irreverent rapping troubadours Feminem and T-Bag tell the tale of the star-crossed Romeos as they skewer stereotypes with swaggering comedic flair against a pulsing hip-hop beat.
BASH'd! - a Gay Rap Opera is loosely based on the real life spike in hate crimes in Alberta, Canada during the national debate on equal marriage for gays and lesbians. Since this debate, same sex marriage has been legalized in Canada, despite the fervent protests of the religious right. In America the struggle continues. Bash'd! - a Gay Rap Opera explores the effect of homophobic violence and the emotions associated with being any marginalized population. Though the topic is serious, the play itself is fast paced, high energy and full of laughs.
The cast features Chris Ferro (TV: All My Children, Fugitive Chronicle, NYC and Regional: Noises Off (HomeMade Theater), OnlyThing East (Off-Off-Bway) and Sean Bradford (Broadway Debut as the Simba cover in Disney's The Lion King and most recently originated the role of Ozie Powell/Ruby Bates in Kander and Ebb's The Scottsboro Boys, directed by Susan Stroman).
