With great humor and touching honesty, one-man show Becoming Butch chronicles producer/writer/actor Vincent James Arcuri's life, from his childhood in the rough and rugged "man's man" world of Queens, New York to his move as an adult to West Hollywood, where he was finally able to live openly and comfortably among the queens. Along the way, he discovered his own beat, found his own voice and redefined what it truly means to become butch.

This was a very enjoyable show. The writing was good, and the delivery quite effective. The show moved along at a crisp pace. Very entertaining.

A good one-man-show about his own true story growing up. The only improvement would be for the character to relax while telling his own story. A couple of times he starts off a new story line incorrectly & stops to start all over again. He needs to go with what he has & develop it from there-after all, it is his own self he is talking about. I'm sure he can manage to ad-lib a couple of sentences until he can catch up with himself again. He was very "dry-mouth" during the entire show-he needs to have more H20 handy for his comfort. I'm sure the show will get easier as time goes on. A story well worth going to see.

Well written, nicely delivered story though it might need a couple of corrections on the story line of events, he jumped from being 16 to 14 and back to 16, 23 Years old. Funny at times and heartfelted. I enjoyed it.

Description

Growing up in the boisterously butch world of Queens, New York, Vincent marched — or rather cheered — to the beat of his own drum. While most boys his age idolized athletes and action heroes, Vincent worshiped pint-sized sitcom star Gary Coleman and the devilish divas of Dynasty.

Born and raised in a conservative Italian/Irish Catholic family, Vincent struggled with being the only boy, the last of the family name and enjoying the company of men. His father was a construction worker and his mother was a stay-at-home mom. While life often resembled an episode of All In The Family, Vincent longed for the lavish lifestyle depicted on Dynasty.

Now living in West Hollywood, Vincent is a TV/radio producer who continues to pursue his acting and writing careers. He's performed in various theater productions both in New York and Los Angeles, has appeared on Days of our Lives and was featured on the ABC Family reality series Switched.

His humorous personal essays have been published in Instinct magazine and via his own monthly column in Frontiers/IN Los Angeles magazine.
