A host of local reggae bands play the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. The lineup features original and cover bands, and the featured band is Quinto Sol, whose music is contagious, inspiring and poignant. Quinto Sol is roots-reggae at its core, woven seamlessly with Latin rhythms like Cumbia, rumba, and son. This collective of musicians uses music as a tool for awareness of socio-political and economic issues facing their community. See the "More Details" section of this listing for information on upcoming shows and the bands scheduled to perform.

I must say, after much anticipation of this event, I was very disappointed. Of the 6 (I think) bands I saw play that night, only one band (the third, I believe) played any reggae, only one band played ska, and the others played HEAD-BANGING, METALLIC, AND/OR PUNK SKA!!! This was definitely not what I expected on a bill that stated "Best of Reggae and Ska" And even though I didn't recognize any of the band names when I bought the tickets, I didn't expect all but one band to do all their sets in SPANISH! But the language was not really my issue, my issue was the heavy metal, head banging, and punk styles that were showcased, and not a traditionally danceable style of music, like reggae and ska. It should have been billed as "Mosh Pit, Slam Dance Punk/Metal/Head-Banger Ska Extravaganza!!" but if it had been presented THAT way, I wouldn't have PAID for 2 tickets to an event that everybody else in the place seemed to have FREE tickets for!!

The last band was very entertaining, the rest rest of them were forgettable. A lot of kids running around.

The House of Blues is a great venue though. The sound is fantastic, and it has a cool ambiance.

I appreciated the fact that we arrived at the venue after 10pm and someone was still available at the Will-Call box office. My favorite part - STEVIE WONDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to this event and was shocked that there was no REAL reggae music being played. None of the artists were even Jamaican. They were mostly white punk bands who mix a little bit of regggae with a lot of rock. DO NOT GO if you are expected real, soulful reggae music. One of the bands turned out to be pretty good. We made the best of our visit. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
