From Bette Davis' first Oscar win in 1935 to Joan Crawford's death in 1977, these two Hollywood divas waged a bitter personal feud competing for acting roles, top billing, Academy Awards and men. BitchSlap! is a comedic take on the long-running dispute with a memorable behind-the-scenes look at the star's double billing on the 1962 classic Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?. Egging the celluloid luminaries on is reigning gossip queen Hedda Hopper, publishing and profiting from her notes on Davis' notorious one-liners and Crawford's sly maneuvering. Catch this West Coast premiere for an insider examination of the Divine Feud.

By the Way, Meet Vera Stark: Sly Satire Skewers Hollywood Racism

Full Price:
$43.00 - $55.00
Our Price:
$21.50 - $27.50

Set in Hollywood over a 70-year period, Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage's pseudo-biographical comedy By the Way, Meet Vera Stark follows the life of a headstrong African-American actress who begins a career in the 1930s, at a time when her only shot at success lay in stealing small scenes in big Hollywood blockbusters. Seventy years later, film buffs reflect on the life and legacy of the controversial star, whose eventual fame and fortune came at the price of perpetuating dangerous stereotypes. Nottage artfully blends comedy and social commentary for a thoroughly entertaining yet thought-provoking picture of the cultural climate that shaped Vera Stark. Clever and illuminating, this show draws on screwball films of the 1930s and uses today's fascination with celebrity and controversy to get to the truth behind the legend, and reflect on who she might have been if she'd lived in a different time. Did really enjoy - although a bit trepidatious, due to some reviews. Didn't find smoke a problem, but sat in back just in case. Learned a LOT about the times and these 3 gals. 'Could take almost anyone and they would enjoy this in some way.

Hilarious! Both actors playing Bette and Joan were on point. If only these two legends became friends, imagine the possibilities! Must see.
