Ok, this was a bizarre and unusual night at the Improv. We stayed for both the early and late shows, but much of the hilarity was in the early show due to a massive tour group of teenagers (100+ 14-15 yr old kids) in the audience. This made for an interesting and uncomfortable experience. We got a kick out of watching the faces of the adult leaders of the group--mortified does not begin to describe it. lol

The thing is, if the Improv is going to allow kids (the min age was 14) into the early show, they need to make sure the content is appropriate for that audience. A lot of the content was NOT even close to appropriate. Seriously--WAY off. If I would have had my son with me (he is close to that age), I would have been really angry with the Improv management as these kids were exposed to topics and discussions many of the adults in the audience flinched at (I cannot describe them here because Goldstar would certainly have a cow).

Aside from all that (as I am *not* a 14 yr old kid), I had a blast. In fact, aside from the awkward atmosphere caused by the above, my girlfriend and I had a fantastic, memorable time--a 5-star experience if ever there was one. We came for dinner and the early show and decided to stay for the late show as well. We were treated like royalty by our server, John, who made sure we were super-happy with absolutely everything and made arrangements for us to have the best table in the house for BOTH shows. Seriously, John made our whole night FANTASTIC. We tipped him well, as he totally deserved it.

The shows were very good, with a few hiccups. The teenager faux-pas notwithstanding, the biggest flop of the night was Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine, The Office), who got on stage at midnight, drunk, and left at 1:00 AM barely able to stand. He made a drunken fool of himself. Otherwise we had a great time. LOTS of talent!!

The Improv either needs to adjust the 14-yr old minimum age for the early show or the content. Otherwise, this is a fantastic place--a Los Angeles institution. Dinner was even reasonably priced and not half bad. Nothing to get excited about, but a good value and decent (3/5 stars for food+value).

Go to the Improv. We had an awesome time. :o)

I could not stop laughing! I dont know how long it has been since I laughed so much. I'm still smiling just thinking about some of the things that were said that night. You have to see this show.
