This new one-man show, written by Rob Rosiello, tells the story of activist Harry Hay, who organized one of the first and most influential gay-rights groups, the Mattachine Society, in 1948 Silver Lake with the help of his partner and future fashion designer Rudi Gernreich. It's very exciting to witness a new play being built. I recommend
"Hay Days" as a great way to gain insight into the life and times of Harry Hays and be a part of the development process. The performance by Thomas James O'Leary is just sublime - beautiful acting with nuance and heart.

Excellent production about the stories of our founder of the LGBT movement in America. A well produced show about a man who is too little known. Well done!

Description

Hay Days
Written by Rob Rosiello
Created by Rob Rosiello and Jim Halloran
Directed by Efrain Schunior

Starring Thomas James O'Leary (from Take Me Out)

Before drag queens rioted at Stonewall…
Before Harvey Milk organized from a camera store…
One man began the journey for gay rights from his living room in Silver Lake.
Alone in the inception but refusing to believe he was alone in the world.
This is the story of that genesis. This is the story of Harry Hay.
A solo work about a singular man who united a community and found himself in the process.

This show is part of CT Tuesdays, a forum where new works are developed. Scripts have already had a staged reading and have been identified to move forward in their development process. This is a minimalist production, using a set and lighting plot, with the focus remaining on the script and a short, but intense, rehearsal process by the director and actors.
