After a sold-out run in 2010, Tony Clifton returns to the stage of the legendary Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip for yet another unapologetically offensive comedy and music extravaganza to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the mysterious disappearance of Clifton alter-ego Andy Kaufman. Joined by his back-up band The Cliftones and his burlesque dancers The Cliftonette, the outrageous entertainer will hold his infamous Hooker Raffle, with one lucky audience member set to receive a round-trip flight from L.A. to Reno. There, the winner will head to the legal brothel known as Dennis Hof's World-Famous Moonlite Bunny Ranch for a free visit. Tony was fantastic. Yeah, his "shock comedy" is a little less shocking by today's standards (I work as a comedy writer, so my offensive bar is set pretty high) but for like 3 solid hours this guy went for it. Burlesque dancers, great band, a tribute to the late Gordon Lightfoot. Show had it all and was well worth it.Written on Sep 10 2010

Tony Clifton Returns In Time For 25th Anniversary
Tony Clifton, alter ego of comic genius, Andy Kaufman, will be returning to The Comedy Store for monumental, special performances. Clifton is backed by the 12-piece Comic Relief-sponsored Katrina Kiss-My-Ass Orchestra, and burlesque troupe, The Cliftonettes. It promises to be a kick-ass, not-to-be-missed show in the intimate nightclub setting of The Comedy Store. Seating is limited, and it will be an unforgettable experience for those present.
It’s 25 years since Kaufman’s writer/producer, Bob Zmuda, united comedians for the first time to raise funds for charity. Since then, his Comic Relief organization, with the help of hosts Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams, has raised millions towards helping the homeless and people in need. They’ve also been very involved with disaster relief, including the 2006 HBO/TBS special for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
So where the hell has Clifton been? 2009 was a big year for the musical titan, traveling the country with his troupe, performing to sold out audiences and stellar reviews.
Also, “Clifton, the Cologne,” a musky 70’s inspired scent designed by L’Oreal’s Uli Lang, was uncorked in New York City.
Clifton is now back in his recording studio at Cliftonmere, his Triple X Nevada ranch, working on his upcoming album. Discerning musicians are in talks with the International Singing Sensation, and musical legend R.E.M. has already signed on for the project — so stay tuned!
Clifton was discovered by Andy Kaufman in 1969, while performing in a seedy lounge in Las Vegas. Captivated, Kaufman engaged Tony to open for him on several occasions, most notably his historic Carnegie Hall Concert. In the ‘80s, Clifton appeared numerous times on such shows as Late Night with David Letterman and The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show. Rodney Dangerfield hired Clifton to open for him at Bill Graham's world famous Fillmore in San Francisco.
Clifton’s most controversial appearance was witnessed by the cast of the TV show Taxi. Tony showed up to rehearsal drunk and with two hookers in tow, and was promptly escorted off the Paramount lot by armed security.
Later, Clifton starred opposite Jim Carrey in the Milos Forman film Man on the Moon. The film ends with Tony on stage at The Comedy Store, exactly 25 years to the day of this current run.
