Written on Sep 24 2012Surprisingly EXCELLENT for a regional locale! The actress who played Eliza Doolittle did a fantastic job with both the before/cockney and after more learned, English accent which isn't easy to do! I simply couldn't find anything about it to complain about with one exception.... we didn't find the actor playing the part of Freddie convincing at all. His voice was very weak and seemed almost untrained (he needs to go to a vocal coach). Otherwise, the performance and overall experience was quite positive.
PS.... LOVE the venue! Seating is comfortable and well designed so one can see the stage no matter where you're sitting (no having to look aside the head in front of you!)
Written on Aug 06 2012It was all very good, particularly the girl who played Eliza, but it was l-o-n-g!!!
Written on Aug 06 2012Vocally the show was wonderful. Sets were overall pretty gorgeous. Costumes were lacking and not appropriate to the time period. Was terribly disappointed that "Alfred Doolittle" had no accent whatsoever. Same with "Mrs. Higgins". "Henry Higgins" was painful to watch. He seemed to have no understanding of what he was saying or what the script said.
I have to say I was surprised that other audience members gave the show such good reviews.
Written on Aug 04 2012good effort for this classic--the sets were clever, the ensemble was great, Eliza was STUPENDOUS!! Henry Higgins was not able to sustain his English accent consistently throughout the performance. It took him until the second half of the show to become more energetic.
