Hailed as "the best musical of this century" by Ben Brantley of The New York Times and "the funniest musical of all time" by Entertainment Weekly, The Book of Mormon won nine Tony Awards -- including Best Musical -- in its first year on Broadway. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone along with Robert Lopez, the Tony-winning co-creator of Avenue Q, this musical comedy is a show that The Daily Show's Jon Stewart has called "a crowning achievement. So good it makes me angry." Now, the national touring production returns to Boston. Learn More

There is a little theater company in Winchester. They are trying to give our area another venue to see good theater. They succeeded yesterday afternoon with Steal Magnolias. With a cast of professionals and semi pros, a small town Louisiana beauty shop of best friends let us in to their stories. Led by Amelia Broome, who was the classiest M'lynn I have ever seen, we learned of the determined Shelby's wedding and pregnancy of a severely diabetic young woman. M"lynn's friends rally around her when tragedy strikes the group of best friends.
The other actresses need a mention: Beth Gotha, Clairee, played the former mayor's wife ready for new adventures. Margaret McCarthy, mixed the vinegar with even amounts of sugar to really show an ornery best friend with a heart of gold. Jackie Coco, shop owner Truvy, displayed all the warmth with providing the shop for the friends to share their lives. Finally, the two younger members Meliissa Marie Walker, the strong willed Shelby, and SaraJane Mullins, the gentle searching Annelle, round out this excellent cast.
When there are a group of woman who jelled as does this cast, the audience is in for a good evening of theater.
