Stephen Sondheim's music provides the soundtrack for the loneliness of two urban singles. Set in the separate apartments of two twenty-somethings, each fantasizing about romance while living only a floor away from each other, this musical revue tells of the characters' hopes, adventurous longings and fears of commitment through bittersweet soliloquies and songs from both famous musicals and never-produced shows. The poignant and romantic story includes a slew of songs originally written for such Sondheim gems as Follies, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, A Little Night Music, Company and more. The show sets the tone for Next Door Theater Company's season of shows exploring love and marriage. Learn More
Reviews & Ratings
This production by NextDoor Center for the Arts offers unique insight into the psyche of a man so wounded by loss and driven by revenge that his “friend” of choice to cut through the pain is drink, his world that of a lockdown facility, his past projected onto the peers of his present … our Sweeney has a close shave with self-destruction as he drinks to kill the pain, to kill the memories, to kill his future. That is, until he ultimately cuts the cord of his pain and falls into self-forgiveness and salvation — reminding us all that sometimes the closest we can come to flying is falling.
