This production by NextDoor Center for the Arts offers unique insight into the psyche of a man so wounded by loss and driven by revenge that his “friend” of choice to cut through the pain is drink, his world that of a lockdown facility, his past projected onto the peers of his present … our Sweeney has a close shave with self-destruction as he drinks to kill the pain, to kill the memories, to kill his future. That is, until he ultimately cuts the cord of his pain and falls into self-forgiveness and salvation — reminding us all that sometimes the closest we can come to flying is falling.
