Maya Angelou's words have been a source of inspiration, comfort, encouragement and strength for millions of people around the world. This three-time Grammy-winner is a poet, a playwright, a producer, a director, a conductor, an actor, a best-selling author, and a social activist. She's also been a pimp, a prostitute, a night-club dancer and performer, and a journalist. A true renaissance woman, she excels at any endeavor she undertakes. She is best known for her series of autobiographies, most notably her first, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which was published in 1969 and tells of her difficult childhood. Her longstanding friendship with Oprah Winfrey is responsible, in part, for making millions aware of her unique and wisdom-filled voice that transcends racial, economic, and educational boundaries, and her 1993 recitation of her poem On the Pulse of Morning at the inauguration of President Bill Clinton brought even more recognition and acclaim. Now the woman who has been hailed as one of the greatest public speakers of our time comes to the Hanover Theatre.

This magnificently macabre musical comedy was created from the beloved TV show by an award-winning team that includes authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) and composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party). It's a fresh take on the original comic strip-turned-TV-and-movie-series and boasts a new story featuring all your favorite characters, including Gomez, Morticia, Lurch, Uncle Fester and Wednesday -- who's all grown up now and in love with a "normal" young man. Whether their relationship can survive her family's kooky hijinks is anyone's guess. It's a "visually satisfying, rib-tackling, lunatic musical that will entertain you to death," according to Toronto Post City. Learn More

Maya Angelou and her life story are truly inspirational. Thank you for bringing her to Worcester. I know you don't have control over the pre-show performance, but if you are passing along information please note that the organist probably wasn't the best choice. Thanks again.
