The Phantom of the Opera Silent Film with the Mighty Wurlitzer
The Phantom of the Opera Silent Film with Wurlitzer Accompaniment
The Hanover Theatre presents a screening of the original 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera, with live musical accompaniment provided by Clark Wilson on a traditional Wurlitzer organ. Follow Christine Daae, an understudy at the Paris Opera, as she's guided to stardom by a mysterious and compelling voice that emanates from behind the walls of her dressing room. The voice eventually summons her to a meeting, where she discovers a sinister man whose face is covered by a mask. Starring Lon Chaney, Mary Philbin and Norman Kerry, it's the classic story of love, revenge, and redemption. The "Mighty Wurlitzer" theater organ was first introduced in 1910, allowing movie houses of the day to provide mood-enhancing music to be played as audiences watched the featured films.
