Te Vaka South Pacific Fusion
South Pacific Band Te Vaka Carries Tradition Into the Modern World
With members from Tokelau, Tuvalu, Samoa, the Cook Islands and New Zealand Te Vaka is a unique group of twelve musicians and dancers who blend the ancient traditions of their islands with modern music. The group is led by Samoan-born, New Zealand-raised Opetaia Foa'I who is widely considered one of New Zealand's finest song writers. The band's vibrant log-drum rhythms, intricate vocal harmonies and hip-swiveling, midriff-baring dancing evoke a tribal, rootsy feel that embraces the culture of the islands.
