Set during the early 1980s at New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts, Fame is the bittersweet yet inspiring story of a group of students as they live through four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that continue to confront young people today: prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and above all, perseverance. The dancing is a mixture of Broadway, modern, street and classical -- a blend of styles as diverse as the characters themselves, who hail from different backgrounds and different parts of New York City. The play is based on the hit 1980 film starring Irene Cara, with music by Christopher Gore and adapted to the stage by Christopher Sergel. Live the dream along with these ambitious young people as Fame comes to The Strawberry Bowl in Garden Grove.
