How was your experience?
Beautifully realized with a wonderful mix of drama and comedy. The cast is a little uneven, with the Smyths both stealing the stage whenever they appear, especially Deborah's Mrs. Pendarves. The actress playing Susannah Cibber is a little weak; her voice does not seem compelling enough to elicit the raptures indicated by the text. The other soprano is a delight, in both her arias and her low comedy. I would definitely recommend this production, urging those who might think the subject matter too religious or stodgy to put aside their concerns and be surprised by a delightful experience of Joyful Noise.
