How was your experience?
The ride is about 5 hours RT. On the way up it gets chilly so we needed multiple layers but the sun came out and it wasn't too bad. My two friends had to buy sweatshirts on the boat. The leaves were starting to change so it was really pretty. On the way back everyone seemed to be nicely intoxicated so there were alot more people up top that didn't seem to mind the cold. I honestly didn't hear anything the commentator said, except for commenting on the amtrak trains that passed. We also brought snacks and wine for the way up and down. There is a paved hike up to Bear Mountain where there is a beautiful lake and a merry go round and the best part - the Oktoberfest. I'm not sure what people were expecting, there was a band and there was beer - that really sufficed for me. They have beer steins for $22 and refills are $9 and you can bring them on the boat, so refill your stein before you get on and it'll be a nice 2.5 ride back to NYC... it kinda reminded me of a country fair but that's to be expected. It was a fun day out of the city and for $25 its a steal. i would recommend trying to be one of the first people off the boat and on the food line, the line gets really long. we were third in line and got to walk around for the 3 hours we were there.
