How was your experience?
Several of the leads were amazing to watch. There were more male soloists than in other ballets I've seen, and the solos included the highest leaps, with more turns, than I've ever seen -- captivating. By contrast, many of the group dances seemed repetitive and boring. The ballet seemed unusual compared to others I've seen in that it had an involved and dramatic storyline. I enjoyed seeing the performers really have to act as well as dance. However, the story climaxed in Act II, and Act III seemed to be a pointless tack-on to the tale. Given that the ballet is already on the long side (almost 3 hours), and that there was no notable new choreography presented in Act III, it's difficult to understand why it didn't just end after the climax in Act II. The music was pleasant but not noteworthy. Overall, the show was enjoyable, but I would have enjoyed it more if it were abridged.
